As part of our commitment to the communities where we do business, Target teams up with local law enforcement each year to help in-need youth buy Christmas presents for their families, and other items they need. Target donates more than $200,000 in over 200 communities in the United States and Canada, and then coordinates with local law enforcement agencies, which choose kids and families to participate in the events, held in December. Kids are paired with public safety officers for the day of shopping and holiday cheer, thanks to Target’s donations and those of other community organizations and individuals. The time spent together gives kids and officers the opportunity to form new connections and friendships. See photos from Heroes & Helpers at Target stores across the U.S.
Heroes & Helpers is just one element of Target & BLUE, a partnership started in 1990 to form connections with law enforcement, public safety and criminal justice agencies, and to share our programs, resources and ideas. Working with programs like Heroes & Helpers and National Night Out, we help individual communities make strides toward a higher standard of safety.
Through Target & BLUE, we also award grants to public safety agencies and programs to prevent crime, train and educate law enforcement and support youth programs. Target shares our safety resources with community partners whenever we can, including our two forensics labs, located in Minneapolis and Las Vegas, and our Investigations Centers across the country. These facilities support law enforcement investigations – in fact, approximately 30 percent of our forensics labs’ work is unrelated to Target, and we offer those services to partners for free.
